[영어쉐도잉] 라이온킹 Lion king / p.104

21년 새해 계획으로 중단했던 라이온킹 쉐도잉을 다시 시작하기로 결심했다.

하루에 8문장씩
'리스닝-받아쓰기-쉐도잉'
요 순서대로 3개월간 (1월-3월) 진행할 예정이다.
처음부터 하는 건 아니고 작년에 뜨문뜨문했던
쉐도잉을 매일매일 조금씩 할 예정이다.

모르는 단어나 숙어는 아래와 같이 정리해보기로 한다.

1) (어떤 것을 잃지 않는) 보유,유지
2) (액체·열기 등이 빠져나가지 않는) 정체, 잔류
3) 기억
업무상 retention 은 유보의 뜻으로 retention money (유보금, 보류금(공사계약 대금중 계약완전 이행을 발주자가 확인할 때까지 지불이 유보되는 부분))로만 사용하다 보니 해석이 어려웠는데 '기억'이라는 뜻도 있었다.
power of retention : 기억력

wet : weak 의 뜻으로 쓰이기도 함
warthog's backside : 멧돼지의 엉덩이


But thick as you are, pay attention.

thick : 멍청한
pay attention: 주목해!

a matter of pride: 자존심

It's clear from your vacant expression
the lights are not all on upstairs.

vacant expression
사람한테 쓰면, 사람의 머리에 생각이 없는 것 같이 지능이 부족한 의미로 표현.
the lights are not all on upstairs
비유적 표현으로 lights 지능을 의미, upstairs는 머리를 의미하여 지능이 다 머리에 있는게 아니야...라고 의역할 수 있다.


But, we are talking kings and successions.

succession
연속, 잇따름, 연쇄, 승계 의 뜻이 있는데 여기서는 승계라는 의미로 사용된 것 같다.
Succession is the fact or right of being the next person to have an important job or position.


Even you can't be caught unaware.

catch somebody unawares : ~에게 불시에 닥치다. 깜짝 놀라게 하다.
